Creative Baby Gifts You Can Make at Home

One of the many advantages of giving a handmade gift is that you can be pretty much certain that your gift will be a one-of-a-kind gift that will be treasured by the mom-to-be! Whatever your level of talent, there are a number of creative baby gifts you can make at home.

These days, many parents know the gender of their baby before it arrives. This makes it easier to choose colors when you’re making your own shower gifts. In addition, the parents-to-be may have already decided on a theme for the baby's nursery – you can consider this as well when you’re planning your gift.

First, consider the skills you have. For example, many people who knit, crochet, sew or quilt often choose to make baby blankets or other items of clothing. On the other hand, if cooking is your passion, think about making some meals for the happy couple to enjoy during those hectic days right after baby's birth. Any mother-to-be will feel good knowing that there’s healthy, delicious food in her freezer.

Another much appreciated baby gift is a collection of baby toiletries, which you can place in an attractive container and decorate any way you like. For example, you could put together a lovely basket full of baby bath, baby lotion, baby oil, baby shampoo, baby powder and more. You could also put together a first aid kit especially designed with babies in mind. For this, include things like a thermometer, infant acetaminophen or ibuprofen drops, anti-gas drops, cotton swabs, teething tablets, small nail clippers and infant electrolyte solution. A collection of nursing supplies is also a good idea, although whether the mom-to-be is planning to breastfeed or use formula will obviously change the contents of that gift. And finally, don't forget mom either – many moms can use some special pampering during this time, so consider some bubble bath, scented lotion and a gift certificate for a manicure and pedicure!
