Caesarean: Go For It When It becomes Absolutely Necessary
Many women prefer a Caesarean to having a normal vaginal childbirth to avoid the pains of labor and delivery. However, reality tells another story. It would be totally wrong to assume that it is a quick solution. Sadly, most women are not aware of the fact that it is not an easy pregnancy birth. It is better to understand the complications involved with caesarean before taking a decision.
Many Risks Are Associated With It
Although a caesarean is technique used to avoid the problems related with pregnancy labor and delivery, yet it is a major type of surgery and you should analyze it in that way only. Every type of surgery, whether it is a minor or a major one, has risks associated with it. Caesarean too has risks linked with it like blood loss, infection and harm to both baby and mother. Moreover, you have to stay for three to four days in hospital unlike a stay of only 1 or 2 days in case of vaginal birth.
Longer Recuperation Period
Recuperation period is also much longer than the normal birth. You take this decision to avoid the labor stage in pregnancy but in the end you will realize that this is much more painful than vaginal birth. You may have to wait for months before you get well completely.
You may have to go through difficult times even during this recovery period. The biggest and most common problem you may face is of infection. It can be very painful to combat because infection not only affects the outer incision but the inner incisions also. You may have to take heavy doses of antibiotics and sometimes one more surgery may be required.
Even on the completion of the convalescence period after a caesarean, you cannot be certain that complications have ended. You have to live with some impediments life long. Even if you follow the exercise routine carefully, the area below the incision may acquire the shape of a pouch. Many times, women complain of pains during movements, even after a a long time. Another common problem is of loss of sense in the incision area.
When you have no valid grounds for opting a caesarean there is no point in going for it. Why take this much risk when all the possibilities of a healthy vaginal delivery are there? One may say that normal childbirth is also not completely risk free. Although this is true, you should take into account the fact that the degree of risk is higher in the case of a caesarean.
However, if it is not possible to avoid the caesarean section then you should at least try to minimize the complications. Many experts suggest that it is better to take a walk within a day of delivery. These few steps, though difficult ones, will definitely help you in many ways. Not only will it give an impetus to the process of getting well but the stiffness in the region of incision caused by caesarean section can also be reduced to a great extent.
